Todd Linsky, host of Todd-versations, said it like this. “We don’t have a clear understanding of the actual value of food. We’re the CEOs of our bodies and our families, yet much of the information we need to make value choices is absent”.

The launch point is a discussion centered on the Environmental Working Group’s Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce, commonly known as the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen lists of conventional fruits and vegetables with the highest and lowest numbers of pesticide residues.

Leslie Bonci, MPH, RD, CSSD, LDN, a nutritional consultant, represented dietitians that are frustrated with the need to “find balance…when we limit people’s choices in terms of what they’re going to buy.”

Leslie has worked extensively with The National Dairy Council, The National Peanut Board, General Mills, the Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, Penguins, Toronto Blue Jays, the Washington Nationals, the WNBA, and other teams and organizations. She is a member of the Monsanto LEAD Network.

Dr. Mano Basu, Vice-president of Science Policy at Crop Life America, represented the pesticide industry, assuring the listeners that “if the (pesticide) residue is under the legal limit (set by the EPA and FDA), it is absolutely safe for consumers.”

Crop Life’s position states that they “advocate for biotech, pesticides, crop protection regulation, and food security tools that support healthy food, healthy people, and a healthy planet.”

Ken Cook, President, and co-founder of the Environmental Working Group, held no punches when he stated, “I hear nutritionists diminishing the fact that pesticides are in food…this is a colossal failure to increase fruit and vegetable consumption.”

The Environmental Working Group has spent the last 30 years advocating for smart food and farm policy focused on how food is grown, and the best ways to protect families and children in the U.S. from dietary exposure to pesticides.

Todd Linsky, President and CEO of TLC and long-time industry veteran, leads the TLC brand management company as they help food-related companies working to grow their presence, refine their model, and impact positive changes in their culture.

Much discussion, from within and outside the food industry, has made opinions known in the past. Todd hopes that “discussions like this lead to greater understanding, cooperation, and tangible changes to positively impact future generations. My first concern is that you eat an apple. It’s my job to convince you to eat an organic one.”
