Move over baking soda there is another air purifier in town. My first thought – not another gadget!

What exactly are we talking about? The Shelfy fridge purifier by Vitesy, is a small but mighty innovation that is designed to keep food fresh twice as long. Their claim? The Shelfy will:
- extend the freshness of fruits and vegetables
- eliminates bacteria, odors, and pollutants
- reduces waste and lowers grocery costs
- keeps your fridge cleaner and your food safer.
That is a lot to digest and even possibly a bit hard to believe.

When I received the unit and examined it, I was reluctant. It truly does not look like much. But I stuck it in the refrigerator and let it do its thing. Now I will say I am pretty good at wrapping and storing food, but after using the unit for a couple of months I was totally convinced. My strawberries and blueberries seemed to last longer but it was the spinach that made be a believer.
I was shopping at one of the warehouse stores and purchased a large clamshell of spinach, and stuck it in the refrigerator. Time moves pretty quick and about three weeks later I finally got around to making one of my famous pots of soup and I wanted to add the spinach, but I had my doubts – remember it had been in the frig for about three weeks.
I was shocked. Let’s face it after that amount of time some – if not all – of the spinach should have started going slimy and there should have been an odor. But no! Each leaf was just as fresh, there was no funky smell, and it tasted well… like spinach.

But what is even more impressive is the unit is rechargeable and the filter can be rinsed. Works for me, no batteries to replace or the waste of throwing out used filters! With that said, the initial cost may come with a bit of a sticker shock but don’t let it. The Shelfy is well worth the investment. In fact, I am so impressed with it all my kids will be getting one for Christmas. Highly recommended by Where The Food Comes From
