Riddle time: Name a candy that is hard enough to chip enamel or even break your teeth? I know a couple of things come to mind, but specifically, I’m thinking peanut brittle or any other nut brittles. Delicious, sweet, crispy, crunchy, sticky, chewy teeth-breaking brittles.
Ah, but peanut brittle – that sweet blend of sugar, water, butter, golden syrup, chockful of peanuts. You’d love to indulge, but after a certain point is it worth it? For those with dental work or sensitive teeth, it’s a risky treat. Until now. Introducing Tam’s Sweets Soft Peanut, Cashew and Hazelnut Brittles.
I love nut brittle. But thanks to my childhood dentist from hell, I have so many crowns that I’ve avoided brittles like the plague. So, when I received three bags of Tam’s Sweets soft brittles I was thrilled. My assortment included a bag of Cashew Brown Sugar Sea Salt, Cashew Toasted Coconut, and Soft Peanut Brittle, and they are absolutely delicious.
I took a bite of the Soft Peanut Brittle, and it was good, but it didn’t blow my mind. Truth be told, I am not a fan of traditional peanuts. My husband, on the other hand, loves them. As he put it, “You bite into something soft and it transforms into something with a crunch and the peanut flavor is amazing. And then it turns into those little sticky, chewy globs of goodness.”
The Cashew Toasted Coconut Brittle is fabulous. I felt like I was biting into a thick graham cracker with a cashew in every bite. But unlike peanuts, I love coconut, and the addition of shredded coconut adds a touch of magic that I cannot describe.
Do you ever find yourself craving something salty and sweet at the same time? I know I do. My solution is to pick up a bag of potato chips then eat some chocolate. No bueno! I have just doubled my calories. But the Cashew Brown Sugar Sea Salt Brittle satisfies both cravings in one luscious crumbly bite. Plus, it feels good knowing I’m getting the nutritional benefits of the cashew. How’s that for a win-win?
As a bonus, the soft brittle products are gluten-free and, with the exception of the chocolate-hazelnut flavors, vegan friendly.
As delicious as the brittles are, they do come with a bit of a sticker shock. The Soft Peanut Brittle is $12.00 per 5-ounce bag or $38.00 per pound and the Cashew Toasted Coconut and Cashew Brown Sugar Sea Salt both are $16.00 for 5-ounce bag about $50 per pound! They’re not out of line with some other premium candies, but they are pricey.
Depending on your budget, or as a special treat, Tam’s soft brittles are worth the investment. But word of caution – they’re so good, 5 ounces will be gone before you know it.
