Traditional Vietnamese Watermelon Salad With Shrimp
Watermelon Salad With Shrimp is easy to make and is a Vietnamese staple during the Lunar New Year.
Ingredients
- 1 watermelon, cut into triangles
- 2 tablespoons fish sauce
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 red pepper, finely chopped
- roasted peanuts, to taste
- fresh mint leaves, to taste
- steamed shrimp
- shrimp crackers
Instructions
- In a bowl, add 2 tablespoons fish sauce, 2 tablespoons sugar, 2 tablespoons water and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Mix well and set aside.
- In a skillet, add 1 finely chopped garlic clove, 1 finely chopped small onion and 1 finely chopped pepper. Sauté until soft.
- In a second bowl, add 2 tablespoons fish sauce mixture and sautéed vegetables. Mix well.
To Serve
- Cut watermelon into triangles and arrange on a plate.
- Place in separate bowls: fish sauce mixture, mint leaves, peanuts, shrimp, and shrimp crackers.
