Looking to use up your strawberries? Make this quick, lower sugar jam!
Recipe courtesy of Julie Andrews and Have A Plant.
Ingredients
- 2 cups strawberries, hulled
- Zest and juice of 1 medium orange (about 3 tablespoons)
- 3–4 tablespoons granulated sugar, honey or maple syrup
- ¼ cup chia seeds
Editor’s Note: This recipe uses substantially less added sweetener than many traditional strawberry jam recipes, which often call for about 1 cup of sugar (approximately 200 grams) for the same amount of fruit. Depending on whether you use sugar, honey, or maple syrup, this recipe contains approximately 38-68 grams of added sugar total.
Instructions
Place strawberries, orange zest, orange juice and sugar in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook 7-8 minutes.
Remove from heat and whisk in chia seeds.
Place jam in a pint-sized jar and seal with a lid. Refrigerate overnight.
Recipe Notes
Storage Tip: Jam will keep for up to 1 week in the refrigerator.
*Please note: Home canning is a great way to preserve produce, but it can be risky if not done correctly and safely.
