Your dog isn’t just a pet – they’re family! And chances are you’re already sneaking them bites of whatever’s on your plate. Good news: many fruits and veggies are safe for your dog and can also provide vitamins, minerals, and fiber that support their health, too.

Of course, not every fruit and veggie are dog-safe, so let’s break down what’s safe to share and what’s better left for the humans.

Fruits safe for dogs

Many fruits can be a healthy and delicious treat for your dog. Be sure to remove any seeds, pits, and rinds before serving them.

  • Apples
  • Bananas
  • Blueberries
  • Cantaloupe
  • Cranberries
  • Mango
  • Oranges
  • Peaches
  • Pears
  • Pineapple
  • Pumpkin
  • Raspberries
  • Strawberries
  • Watermelon

Veggies safe for dogs

There are several veggies that can be a tasty treat for your dog. Be sure to remove any tough skin or rinds and chop them into bite-sized pieces before serving.

  • Broccoli
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Cucumbers
  • Green beans
  • Peas
  • Spinach

Fruits & veggies dogs should avoid

While certain fruits and veggies are perfectly healthy for humans, they could contain compounds, seeds, or parts that are dangerous, if not toxic, to dogs. Be sure to keep the following out of reach of your dog.

  • Asparagus
  • Avocado
  • Cherries
  • Grapes
  • Leeks
  • Onions
  • Wild mushrooms
  • Tomatoes

An important reminder: Not all human foods are safe for dogs, and some fruits and veggies can cause serious health issues or even be fatal if consumed. When introducing any new food to your dog, offer it in small amounts and contact your veterinarian if you are unsure whether a food is safe.
