Salmon is one of the healthiest foods on the planet, high in protein and rich with omega-3 fatty acids that help with heart and brain function. But — as with any fish — there’s better and worse and you often don’t know what you’re buying.
Enter Mowi Consumer Products of America, a subsidiary of global Norwegian giant Mowi, which sustainably produces one-fifth of the world’s farm-raised Atlantic salmon supply. With its latest addition – Individual Single 6-ounce Atlantic Salmon Portions, plain or in an amazing array of flavors (including individual cedar planked versions!) — that goodness is as close as your grocer (or Amazon).
Where The Food Comes From sampled a variety of a half-dozen flavors. And let me tell you we were in for a treat.
Our package contained six individual packets of salmon which included plain Atlantic Salmon, Tuscan Herb, Sweet Bourbon, Maple, Garlic Herb Side and cedar-planked.
Our next decision was how to cook them. We opted to pan fry all six pieces in an electric skillet with just a smattering of olive oil, per the instructions on the back, and set them out smorgasbord style.
First let me say I am not a salmon lover. This product quickly changed my mind and I ended up eating way too much – which really surprised WTFCF Chip Carter, who knows I actually kind of loathe the stuff. But even I found the salmon to be moist and flaky with no fishy taste. Better yet, my house did not smell like fish during or after cooking. A testament to freshness!
The rest of the staff are salmon lovers and were as impressed as I was. Their focus was sampling the various flavors. They were amazed at how delicious the natural flavorings tasted. The flavor was subtle and the texture was not compromised. No one filet emerged as a favorite — we kind of loved them all, really.
Bottom-line, Mowi has elevated the seafood experience with healthy, individual portions packed with quality and taste. Mowi’s product line includes an array of pre-packed fresh salmon, smoked varieties, and convenient coated frozen options in addition to these beauties.
If you’re worried about some of the bad news about seafood these days — elevated levels of mercury and other elements, microplastics and the like — Mowi’s commitment to quality is reassuring. You can find out more about it at the website or via their Decoding Seafood.
Check out Mowi’s website to learn more about their seafood and where to buy this amazing salmon — it’s at your local target and other stores as well.
